A friend is going through the final stages of divorce. It’s not what she wanted, but after several years of trying every other route it is the only option remaining.
Before she can get to a better life for her and her children she now has:
- The additional physical and emotional workload of being a single parent
- The additional physical and emotional workload of arranging to sell the family home
- An ex-husband who not only isn’t helping to make these things happen, but is actively disrupting them
- Two children who are upset by the situation and are ‘acting out’ their worries, bringing additional physical and emotional workload for her
Critical to achieving all the outcomes she wants in the world is her ability first to generate inner calm in herself.
This is an extreme example. But the principle holds true for all of us.
